Immigration solicitors in Liverpool for a sponsor licence
Employers in Liverpool looking for an immigration solicitor usually want help with one of these:
- getting a licence on a first application
- weighing up their options after a refusal
- staying on top of their sponsor duties
- replying to a suspension letter, or handling a revocation
- sponsoring one particular worker with a licence they already hold
Each one has its own paperwork and its own deadlines. One regulated immigration solicitor firm receives your question, and it then deals with you directly. What that involves is set out in our general guide to immigration solicitors.

Does the immigration lawyer you use have to be in Liverpool?
No, not for the licence. Applications go through an online form. The Home Office must then receive your supporting documents by email, no later than 5 working days after you submit (Appendix A, sections 1.3 and 1.5). If a caseworker has a question, they email your key contact, the person named on the licence as the Home Office's main contact. That means a firm anywhere in the UK can handle a Liverpool application for you by email and video.
Visits are the exception. A compliance visit from the Home Office happens at your premises, or at any site where your sponsored staff work, and it may come unannounced (sponsor guidance Part 3).
Liverpool employers that hold a sponsor licence
The Home Office register of 22 October 2026 lists 739 organisations with Liverpool as their town (GOV.UK register). The figure is about 0.6% of the UK's 127,744 licensed sponsors, and among the register's 5,763 towns Liverpool ranks between Luton (708) and Bradford (740). A Skilled Worker licence is held by 709 of the Liverpool sponsors. Use our register search to look up a named employer.
Keeping a Liverpool licence compliant
The sponsorship management system (SMS) is the Home Office's account for sponsors online, and you must use it to report most organisational changes within 20 working days once licensed (Part 3, section C2). A suspension letter also gives you 20 working days to reply in writing (Part 3, section C9). Employers usually call in a solicitor during that brief window. Day-to-day obligations are set out in our sponsor duties guide.
What lawyers charge, and the papers to gather first
Solicitors each decide their own fees. Among the firms with published prices, a sponsor licence application costs £3,000 to £4,500 plus VAT at two of them. Whichever firm gets back to you, it will quote its own fee. It helps to have these ready before you get in touch (Appendix A):
- your latest annual accounts, or a Companies House link to where they appear free online
- a recent bank statement for the business
- proof from HMRC that you are registered for PAYE, with your employer reference on it
- a staff list showing each person's job title, if your workforce is no more than 50 people
- which people will serve as the authorising officer, the key contact and the level 1 user, the three roles for managing a licence (GOV.UK)
Questions Liverpool employers ask about immigration lawyers
How do I check that an immigration lawyer in Liverpool is regulated?
Because Liverpool is in England, its solicitors come under the Solicitors Regulation Authority and appear on the SRA register. There is also a Find a Solicitor directory from the Law Society of England and Wales. Advisers who are not solicitors can be checked through the Immigration Advice Authority adviser finder; it lists what level of work each adviser may do. You cannot get your money back from an unregulated adviser, GOV.UK warns (GOV.UK).
What if our Liverpool licence application was refused?
If you applied without success in the last 6 months, a licence will not usually be granted (GOV.UK). A review is only possible if the caseworker made a mistake or failed to consider your documents; disagreeing alone is not enough (GOV.UK). Which of these applies is something a solicitor can work out from your refusal letter. Our refused licence guide has more.
